So, by my count three weeks since I last posted. Good, excellent work. Blog is off to a flying start, clearly. Not that this should come as any kind of surprise, what with our collective business (that does still also mean the state of being busy, yes?) and also (at least for some of us (ME)) our laziness, but still. Two posts in a month. Just exemplary work, me.
But it’s not my fault - oh no, dear reader, I blame, as we all should blame, my parents. Very shortly following post number one, momsy and dadsy came to visit (with younger brother in tow.) Now, I realize that this is a rite of passage for all (or at least) people sometime in their twenties, you move out, you become (basically) independent, perhaps for years you always go home to visit your parents, but eventually you’ve moved far away and it becomes easier for them to visit you. If you’ve yet to experience this for yourself, it’s a delightful time of transition for you as a person, not unlike puberty in its way. Recently, road rage in the greater-DC area turned deadly.
And a World Health Organization study shows bad driving is
traffic injuries are the leading cause of death in people ages 10-24. They go out of their way to avoid using the term “accident,” stating that “road traffic crashes are not ‘accidents.’ We need to challenge the notion that they are unavoidable.” And how. (more…)

Forming a blog is the new forming a band. I’m utterly convinced that this is the case, and my experience starting this one backs it up. Actually, it should be known that “The Maestro” and I actually tried to start another blog last year and quit doing it almost immediately. I had a ska band in high school called “43 Man Squamish” that broke up without ever doing anything either - this is not coincidence.
It’s not just that most blogs falter before they even really begin. Blogs and bands are both usually started for mostly asinine reasons - they’re quasi-artistic ventures that enable people to display their affection for themselves in a public or semi-public space. Usually you either start them with your friends or you just start a solo career right off the bat. Sometimes a blog or band takes off, usually they do not. I think sometimes bloggers even “go solo”, though I may be hallucinating to prove my point (it’s not unheard of.) (more…)
