I hope the four of you enjoy this post

Christmas Midwest-style ended up being alright despite my wounds and shoddy haircut. I received some good gifts: GPS (for the car I don’t have but it’s pretty flippin’ sweet nonetheless); a few books, some DVDs (Firefly and an awesome He-Man collection); and some flashy new ties among other things. But the interesting part is always the traveling, right?

I had this one all planned out. I’d leave midday and get home before 9pm in plenty of time to be rested for work the next day. How responsible is that? Well, didn’t happen. My connecting flight from Chicago to DC was canceled without explanation and the only thing United could offer me was an American Airlines flight via Dallas. I’d be going in the complete opposite direction for a bit, which has happened before and always seems silly to me, but what could I do?

After getting Tweaks a sweet “Don’t Mess with Texas” shot glass she would later look down and shake her head at, I sat down to read before my flight. A few moments later I heard, “Meat, someone wants to speak to you.” Completely confused, I take the cell phone being thrust upon me from someone with a familiar face, and while I’m trying to process all of that I hear Tweaks laughing hysterically on the other end. The familiar face was G and his wife A, who are friends of Tweaks and her family, and I had met them over Thanksgiving. They had seen me from a distance and weren’t quite sure if I was the stranger they had met nearly a month ago so they had called to confirm with Tweaks before approaching me.

I saw them again shortly after. We were on the same flight because they were heading to DC to be with A’s family for Christmas, and then to spend New Year’s Eve at Holden Beach in North Carolina with me, Tweaks, and various other friends and family of Tweaks’. To be brief the weekend was fantastic. There was sun (temperate weather, not exceedingly warm); sand; talking with friends; relaxing; star gazing; baseball (I can’t bat, which is embarrassing for some people); a game called “Celebrity” (which I rocked at and which made up for my horrible batting); said He-Man DVD watching; saw the movie Superbad; ate and ate tons of delicious homemade foods; drinking in bulk; dancing; reading; and sleeping in for as long as I possibly could.

I should also mention that the Harry Potter scratch on my forehead has healed nicely and was barely noticeable by the time I got to the beach.

Now it’s back to the drudgery of work and news about the elections. The saving grace last night was the celebration of BananaFlux’s birthday. It was a particularly good turn out at the Castle, and we had delicious Greek foods and cake to eat. Rock Band and foosball were played for hours and we finished off with a decent round of Taboo.

Nice post, tho I really think my name should be in it 6 or 7 more times and then it would be perfect.

C’mon, dude, you’ve got at least, like, eight readers. At a minimum.

Woah, celebrity! Is that the one where everybody writes down names of celebrities on scraps of paper and throws the scraps in a hat? And then you do three rounds of, like, describing the names, and then only using three words, and then only doing charades? b/c that game rules, and I can never get my stupid friends to play it.

That’s the exact same version of Celebrity we played. It was very fun. I hope we can play it at the Castle sometime, and if we do you can totally impress us with your Celebrity skillz.
