Magical mystery tour January 17
It’s a blustery wintry nightmare outdoors in DC right now, and it affords me the opportunity to delight you all with further TALES OF THE METROBUS! The stats don’t lie people - you love transit-blogging. Probably because you’re largely Rusty’s readers.
So obviously the bus was not on time. In fact, one little like mini-metrobus passed us by while we waited, it was lit and empty and another metro employee stepped in as he stopped and had a little chat. I suppose I should’ve inquired but it was clear they were not taking passengers. It was sleeting or freezing raining or something, something terrible, on me for like five good minutes before CV starts prattling about how ‘oh I wish I had thought to get out my umbrella in the metro station, I didn’t realize we’d be out this long.
‘Wait a minute, you have an umbrella?’
*scoffs* ‘I always have an umbrella.’
‘And you’re just keeping it there in your bag?’
‘I’ve been out here long enough that it’s not worth getting out. You want it?’
‘YES YOU FOOL YES GIMME GIMME! HAHAHA! SUCKER!’
So that was good. Less good was when the bus took a hard, immediate right down Conn Ave. “WTF” seemed to be the universal response. A couple of people got off the bus pretty much immediately, but being the adventurous sorts we waited it out to see where this was headed.
Answer: around Calvert and back up to Mt Pleasant St. before turning right at Irving. Bit of a hike to Walbridge in this kind of weather. Fuck my previous dinner plans, kids, it’s a frozen pizza night.

No mention of the girl reading Kafka on the Shore we were talking with for part of our wait? Or the “horrendous” smell of the taquitos at 7-11 that drove you outside with me? Or that we were told that there was a suspicious package on Porter and that’s why the bus didn’t go on its normal route? Or that the bus driver was going to go down to 18th on Connecticut rather than turn on Calvert before he was told it wasn’t reasonable?

I had to wait 40 minutes for a bus yesterday to get to work, not counting the one that was going the other way (and I couldn’t get to in time) or the Not In Service bus that passed by 5 of us waiting in the snow. I don’t have any idea where it could have been going that was more necessary than picking us up.

Just curious, as a follow up - how many people here think CV is an idiot for not talking to the Murakami girl? She was cute and she started talking to us. We made her laugh a number of times. Now, obviously I am a pussy and should not really judge, I could’ve talked to her in more detail myself. However - have I read any Murakami? No. Has CV? Oh, only like every one of them. NATURAL ENTRE. Help me shame him, people.

CV is a jerk!
