I was just having trouble explaining to B-Flux the other night how I think the press treats Obama with kid gloves. I know it’s not exactly an original insight, but it’s nice to see the Onion picked up on it. This is pitch-perfect. H/T to AwesomeFactory for the link.

What could possibly explain a more-than-two-month absence from blogging? Simple, really:
1. Dabbling in neo-Luddism.
2. Someone smashed all my fingers with a hammer and I’ve been re-learning to type using my tongue and nose.
3. I swore off live music and have nothing to talk about.
4. My internet fame was beginning to interfere with my personal life in creepy (but erotic) ways.
I’ll let you decide which one of these is true (hint: it’s none of them.) Obviously I have a whole summerful of stories to tell you, concerts I saw wherein there were pretty girls in attendence (or even, in some cases, dogs and babies!), summer movies (did you realize there’s a NEW BATMAN movie? I wonder how it is!?) - but for my return to the internet, I want to give you guys a little something extra. A little something called visual pizazz. PHOTO AFTER THE FOLD.

Well, CV and Vermonstrous and I, we grab some Nam Viet for dinner. And just as happened like eight months ago, when it’s the three of us we can’t get fucking served. We waited and waited and waited. The thing is, I think we’ve all been in the interim and had no problems - it’s just the combination of the three of us, they refuse to serve us. Awesome. Dinner took like an hour, and jesus fucking christ, we ordered a single order of spring rolls and pho, pho, pho. It’s soup, people. Spoon it out and bring it to us. Sheesh.

Also, tonight, I got to see Bishop Allen for, I think, the fourth time? They played for 45 minutes, plus a two-song encore, so, not nearly long enough, but… man, still so satisfying. We were right up at the front, like, second row of people. They were just as tight and fun as ever, I hardly even know what else to say. It was a little weird having just watched Justin Rice’s movie, I guess. A little. But mostly they were just excellent. Ever just have a band like that that really hits your sweet spot, but they’re still relatively small-scale and they’re either local or from nearby and so they play every few months and you always go see them and you listen to them in the interim whenever you feel down or you just are sick of listening to new music and want something you know will sound good? In high school that band, for me, was The Gadjits, but now it’s Bishop Allen. Never change, Bishop Allen, never change.

So, a quick gmail search indicates that I finally listened to Los Campesinos! (punctuation theirs) on about April 24th. I was basically immediately in love and when I realized they’d be in town tonight, I was gonna go, regardless of the facts that 1) there are shows the next two nights as well and 2) apparently, nobody else cares about them. Well, I went into today thinking that was the case, thankfully Caseus’s/Tweaks’s new roommate is the shit and decided to come with, bringing along her northlander friend.
