Mostly semantics, we hardly knew ye

Friends, (both of you) the time has come. The writing is on the wall; it is decidedly not on the blog. Rather than continue to linger in this awkward wordless limbo, we are pulling the plug. Oh, things started out well enough. We were funny, at least we thought so. Witty, certainly, on occasion. (I won’t admit to how long we bandied about with potential names.) We had the grand ideas. Food! Music! Ennui. Yeah. It’s hard to pinpoint where things went south. We were never prolific, but we had a good thing going for a while there. Somewhere along the way, though, it seemed to have run its course. It’s not that we don’t still have things to say and stories to tell. But if we are writing things down, we definitely aren’t writing them here. So this is it. Farewell, gentle readers. We’ll see you on the flip side.

ok, I did it

As a follow-up to our ‘greatest game’ last week, Bobby McObvious asked in the comments who was going to make the official youtube playlist. I have taken that liberty. Here is the link. I took some liberties with it, cutting out stuff I just personally didn’t want to hear (since I actually will listen to this), but uh, 130 classic 90s tracks. Please do enjoy.

It started simply enough. A casual email thread, making plans with friends. I used the word “hooch” in passing and immediately got this back:

Jess: OMG that’s exactly what i was thinking! relatedly, somehow i heard this TWICE this weekend:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5MjVyqByzU. and one of the times was on someone’s ipod.

To which I replied: do not claim to have not sung along, at least for the chorus, for we know it to be impossible. this is a good game. what is next? I’ll offer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDAXltfj8-Y

Eleven dozen tracks/links later and I think I can safely say this is the most addicting game I’ve ever played. (more…)

cool beans

Well, what Tweaksy wants, Tweaksy gets, it would seem. Not that there was a chance in hell I was going to neglect writing up one of the most surreal concertgoing experiences of my life, but it’s nice to know we’re her go-to review, especially considering how unprofessional my reviews tend to be. The short story: last night we saw Radiohead at Nissan Pavilion in, I’m pretty sure, Burma.

Neeeeeeeerds!

Ok, so, tough question time. We posed this to Tomahawk Chop (one of four or so unofficial roommates here at the Castle) last week and it spurred much deliberation, so I thought it’d be a good one to turn over the the ‘crowd’ (our massive, adoring readership). Simple question: rank the 5 (official) roommates, from nerdiest to least nerdy. (more…)
