ok, I did it

As a follow-up to our ‘greatest game’ last week, Bobby McObvious asked in the comments who was going to make the official youtube playlist. I have taken that liberty. Here is the link. I took some liberties with it, cutting out stuff I just personally didn’t want to hear (since I actually will listen to this), but uh, 130 classic 90s tracks. Please do enjoy.

The greatest game ever played

It started simply enough. A casual email thread, making plans with friends. I used the word “hooch” in passing and immediately got this back:

Becca: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBp7lqoyrok

Jess: OMG that’s exactly what i was thinking! relatedly, somehow i heard this TWICE this weekend:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5MjVyqByzU. and one of the times was on someone’s ipod.

To which I replied: do not claim to have not sung along, at least for the chorus, for we know it to be impossible. this is a good game. what is next? I’ll offer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDAXltfj8-Y

Eleven dozen tracks/links later and I think I can safely say this is the most addicting game I’ve ever played. (more…)

De Novo Favorite Band?

I mean, ok, that’s some hyperbole, but goddamned if tonight wasn’t a highly satisfying show. Be Your Own Pet made me suspect there may be more to Nashville than I’d thought, but De Novo Dahl confirmed the hell out of that suspicion tonight at the RnRH.

Things are what you make of them

Also, tonight, I got to see Bishop Allen for, I think, the fourth time? They played for 45 minutes, plus a two-song encore, so, not nearly long enough, but… man, still so satisfying. We were right up at the front, like, second row of people. They were just as tight and fun as ever, I hardly even know what else to say. It was a little weird having just watched Justin Rice’s movie, I guess. A little. But mostly they were just excellent. Ever just have a band like that that really hits your sweet spot, but they’re still relatively small-scale and they’re either local or from nearby and so they play every few months and you always go see them and you listen to them in the interim whenever you feel down or you just are sick of listening to new music and want something you know will sound good? In high school that band, for me, was The Gadjits, but now it’s Bishop Allen. Never change, Bishop Allen, never change.

Day five

Oh man, not so much to report today. I slept in, as it’s Saturday, and laid around most of the day, so only had 6 servings of the lemonade. Got the juicer up and running today, and let me say, it is fucking incredible. It’s also moving here with the new roommate (who, btw, how do you not have a blog name yet? Let’s ponder this.) and I can’t wait to be done with this so I can see what it does to, oh, fucking everything. (more…)
